Those are the contest basic rules for Fotolimpics™: Other rules can be added depending on the type of contest.

- Megapixels: You can use a digital camera with a minimum of 6 megapixels of resolution.
- Brand: Any brand of camera is acceptable.
- SLR: Any Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, bridge camera (body and lens as one unit), mirrorless (DSLR) or compact camera (body and lens as one unit) can be used. Action, drone and film cameras are not on this category.
- Picture File: The camera must have the ability of doing doing a Hi-Resolution JPEG (JPG) File sometimes showing as L-JPEG file.
- Files with lower resolutions will not be accepted.
- Files with higher resolution than can be downgraded by Fotolimpics in order to be manageable by the judges for easiness and convenience of the judges panel.
- Equipment: You can bring lenses, filters, flashes, lights, accessories and tripods/mono-pods that will fit in a photo backpack or on a backpack.
- Any Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, bridge camera (body and lens as one unit), mirrorless or compact camera.
- The camera must be able to take pictures in manueal mode (For speed and aperture, plus change manually the ).
- The camera MUST produce an that will show details of the picture speed, aperture, ISO, camera used, lens used and date and time of the picture taken.
- Memory Card: Before the start of event, Fotolimpics will be provided with a blank formatted memory card that will be used by the participant, where an ID file will be recorded to identify the competitor by Fotolimpics.
- Participant will take pictures with that identified memory card and will indicate what files will be added for the competition finals.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): No AI can be used to produce a picture or part of it. No AI assisted process and/or equipment can be used for taking the picture.
- Automatic (Aperture, Speed, Focus, Aperture-Speed, Aperture-Speed-Focus), Programmed (P) or pre-programmed settings (Custom Programmed, setting icons) are acceptable for the competition.
- Assistants: The photographer can not have an assistant for the event.
- People with certain level of disability can be accepted to participate. It will be on a case by case decision.
- Fotolimpics have the absolute right to decide if the assistance for people with disability is accepted or not, and final decision can not be subject to appeal.
- The assistant for disability people can not take part on any picture taking action like pressing the shutter, focusing, zooming, selecting by himself/herself, holding equipment, doing any camera setting or suggest any photographic detail of the picture. (Exceptions to these rules must be discussed case by case BEFORE with the judges).
- Final Picture: The picture must be totally created by the mind and action of the photographer, using his equipment.
- The photographer will decide the best picture he/she thinks is good for the final submission.
- The photographer memory will go from his camera directly to the Fotolimpics submission computer, so no intermediary step/action can be done like seeing on a laptop, cell, PC or tablet before the submission.
